Frequently Asked Questions

Can regenerative injections replace joint replacement surgery?
For some patients, yes. If the structural damage is extremely severe, surgery is the definitive answer. However, for many patients diagnosed with 'bone-on-bone' osteoarthritis, the true source of pain is inflammation and micro-instability, not just the lack of cartilage. Regenerative procedures (like PRP or BMAC) can drastically change the biochemical environment of the joint, providing years of functional relief and delaying or preventing the need for an operation.
Why is ultrasound guidance so important?
Blind injections (relying only on anatomical landmarks) have a high rate of missing the target tissue, especially in complex joints like the hip or shoulder. We use real-time ultrasound guidance for every interventional procedure. This allows for sub-millimeter precision, ensuring the biologic agent or medication is placed exactly where the tissue damage is, maximising safety and efficacy.
Do I have to do physiotherapy as well?
Yes. Regenerative injections provide the biological building blocks for repair, but physical load dictates how that tissue remodels. If we inject a tendon but you return to the exact same faulty biomechanics that tore it in the first place, it will tear again. Our in-house, physician-coordinated physical rehabilitation is what secures the long-term clinical outcome.
What is the difference between PRP and BMAC?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) concentrates growth factors from your blood to stimulate local healing, excellent for tendinopathies and mild to moderate arthritis. Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) extracts stem cells and advanced growth factors from your bone marrow. BMAC is a more potent intervention typically reserved for moderate to severe joint degeneration and complex tissue tears.
